The Doggie Oasis Day Care Evaluation

Welcome to your dog’s first day at our oasis! This evaluation will help us get to know your dog better and decide if doggie day care is the right fit for you. To help you understand the process, here are answers to a few common questions about our evaluations.

Why four hours and not a whole day?

Just like people, all dogs have different personalities. Some are very outgoing and eager to make new friends, while some might be shy and need some ‘icebreakers’ to feel comfortable. In either case, we have found that 4 hours is a great amount of time for your dog to become comfortable with us, his/her new dog friends, and for us to make sure that daycare is a good fit for them. We do not want your dog to become nervous that they will not be picked up from day care, which may happen with too long of a stay on the first visit.

What exactly will you be evaluating?

We will be looking at several aspects of your dog’s personality. Separation anxiety, socialization with other dogs, signs of fear or aggression towards other dogs or humans, how they behave on their walk or one-on-one time, and what commands they know or respond to are a few traits that we observe.

Will my dog immediately be put in with
all the other dogs for the evaluation?

No. We study the information that you have previously filled out, observe and interact with your dog during this time, and initially introduce your pet with other dogs who we believe would be a good match. We will then gradually acclimate other dogs depending on the comfort level of your pet. This process may take some time and patience, depending on your pet’s personality and is always strictly and professionally supervised.

After the evaluation…

You will receive a report card explaining your dogs’ day and how they did. If they are welcome back any time, simply schedule a time for them to come in again. Dogs do best if they are kept on a regular schedule seeing the same dogs every week. We do recommend your dog to come in at least twice a month. If it has been more than 4 months since your dog has been to day care, we may have to reevaluate. Dogs can arrive at day care anytime starting at 7:30am and may be picked up until 6:30pm Monday-Friday for a half or full day of play. Our weekend hours are 9:00am-5:00pm.

Finally, the new social interaction your pet will encounter while being at Doggie Oasis will be both physically and mentally exhausting.  Look for your dog to need a lot of rest when they get home.
